Great Barrow Challenge

Welcome to:  The Great Barrow  (four day) Challenge.

Wednesday 19th to Saturday 22nd September 2012


1. Choose your Challenge

  • Walking
  • Running
  • Cycling
  • Combination of the above (i.e run one day, cycle the next, any distance)

2. Choose your Distance

  • Walking – 6, 10, 15, or 26.2 miles
  • Running – 6, 10, 15, or 26.2 miles
  • Cycling – 30, 60 or 125 miles

3. Pay securely Online

  • CYCLING EVENTS: Full 4 days £60 up until 1/8/12, then £80 until 18/9/12 then £100 pay on the day, or, 1 day event £25 (£35 on the day) 
  • WALKING/RUNNING EVENTS: Full 4 days £45 up until 1/8/12 then £60 until 18/9/12 then £80 pay on the day , or, 1 day event £20 (£30 on the day) 
  • Under 16's (any event) £10 for 1 day or £30 for all 4 days (any event)

 

START TIMES:

The start times for all challenges have been staggered deliberatly to allow walkers, runners and cyclists to finish the challenge roughly at the same time and therefore create a celebration mood among competitors.

Walking 26.2 miles = 7am, maximum of 11 hours time

Walking 15 miles = 9am, maximum of 9 hours time

Walking 10 miles = 10am, maximum of 8 hours time

Walking 6 miles = 11am, maximum of 7 hours time

 

Running 26.2 miles = 10am, maximum of 8 hours time

Running 15 miles = 11am, maximum of 7 hours time

Running 10 miles = 12noon, maximum of 6 hours time

Running 6 miles = 12noon, maximum of 6 hours time

 

Cycling 125 miles = 7am, maximum of 11 hours time

Cycling 60 miles = 10am, maximum of 8 hours time

Cycling 30 miles = 12 noon, maximum of 6 hours time

 

FINISH TIMES: For ALL challenges is 6pm

ACCOMMODATION

We only now have outdoor camping facilities where you can pitch a tent on our lawns. The cost is £6 per night per person which includes use of toilet and shower facilities. There is a fully licensed bar on site.

FOOD

You are able to book a main hot meal in the evenings at a cost of £6 (either paid online or on the day - pre booked meals take a priority at meal times), this will be served between 5pm and 7pm. The provisional menu is here:

Wednesday 19th

Main meal Penne Pasta with creamy broccoli sauce and chicken

Thursday 20th

Beef and Bean Chilli with Rice, sour cream and corn chips.

Friday 21st

Penne Pasta with tomato and Mascarpone sauce, bacon and mushrooms.

Saturday 22nd

Chicken Curry, rice and naan bread.

Vegetarian dishes are available at all times

Also availabe are additional extras including soup, jacket potatoes, burgers, cajun chicken burgers, BBQ pork burger and chips.

Breakfast is available each morning (Pay as you go) which consistes of Porridge, bacon,  sausage or egg baps, tea and coffee.

All food is prepared and cooked by a specialist team of chefs and all meat is direct from their butchers shop.....you will not be dissapointed!

PARKING

Is FREE in the main car park (limited spaces) and on the field if you are camping overnight, or £2 per day if you are staying elsewhere

ROUTES:

All entrants will be supplied with the following:

  • A colour detailed map of their route
  • A detailed route description
  • A unique competitor number in waterproof paper (to be worn on the front please)
  • In addition, all routes are clearly marked with colour coded arrows for guidance.

 

MARSHALS:

Marshals will be stationed at a maximum of 5 miles apart for walking and running and 15 miles apart for cycling and they will all have a supply of water for you together with cups. They will be identifiable with GBC yellow bibs, have contact with event control and have knowledge where all toilet facilities are within their area. They are there to assist you if you need it. They also have contact with First Aid.
