Testimonials
We believe in letting the events sell themselves, this is the feed back we have received from the people who have taken part in some of our events.
We’d love to hear more from you if you have taken part in a Great Barrow Challenge Event, so get in touch please and we will place your thoughts here.
Thank you for a superb event, really enjoyable. Please could you pass on my thanks to all your team who made it so great. I will definately be back next year.
I have never completed 2 back to back marathons before so to do all 4 was fantastic.
Just a queery about the medal as I was unable to stay late Saturday, will you be able to post the medal out? Thanks again
Jim
Hi Glen,
Hope all’s well. I just jotted down a few words/ memories of my Great Barrow Challenge experience, and thought i’d share them with you. You’re welcome to use them on your website or anything … I don’t profess to be a great writer but it’s just what came into my head….
I heard about this event through a friend of mine who lives in Suffolk. This was to be a multi-day challenge for me- 4days, 4marathons, walking. I hadn’t ‘challenged’ myself this year, apart from a 1day, 60k walk, back in May.
I read all the information there was on The Great Barrow Challenge Website and I think my research proved fruitful. I’d learnt what the event was and how it was created and by whom. Glen Moulds is the founder of The GBC and hving read about his military background, I knew I had to discipline myself to be able to achieve my goal of finishing all 4 marathons. I was prepared for this to be a ‘low-key’ sporting event, rather than a fun-filled charity walk. But I knew the idea of earning the special medal at the end of it would be worth it.
All 4 days were filled with lovely countryside views, as well as being able to see the very pretty Suffolk villages. In some of the villages, a few people who were fortunate enough to live in these pretty places, walked a bit with me. There was an old lady of 78, who lived in a beautiful thatched cottage, who told me how she walks 4miles every day to the nearest shop…well, she didn’t think it would be appropriate to take her horse!!
A few residents in another village said how they were in awe of me and what I was attempting (much-needed encouragement I must say!).
There was also a cyclist who chatted for a while, before pedalling off after I told him that cyclists could do the 4day challenge of 125miles a day- was it something I said??
And a young female runner, who accompanied me all the way up a hill, chatting and telling me that I was inspirational. It was great to have the company and the encouraging words…. however, I soon realised after we parted that I need not have walked all the way to the top of that darn hill! I should have turned into the woods, so I missed out on a lovely woodland walk.
It wasn’t long before I was back on track, due to the map provided and then the red arrow signs/gree tape markers that I was meant to be following (and not chatting!).
On Day 4, my feet hurt so bad, it was like walking on a bed of nails (or so I imagine anyway). My legs hurt like hell, I felt physically sick and extremely emotional. Thank goodness I could save my tears for when I was in the middle of a field with no-one around…… but then I looked up- and there was that darn photographer , John, AGAIN!!! No smiles for him this time i’m afraid.
Eventually, at long last, I arrived in Barrow. My Mum walked down the road from The Academy to meet me, where we both hugged and cried. Then the last few painful steps to the Finish Line where I was greeted by my Dad- more hugs and tears! I can’t begin to describe the overwhelming sense of achievement and pride at the end….oh, and relief!!
The support from all the other participants- walkers, runner and cyclists was fantastic. It was a gtreat atmosphere and a great challenge…. And what a great medal! The GREAT Barrow Challenge.

Massive Thanks to all for a great event. Courses were really good and very testing. From a sponsorship point of view I raised approx £600 for Prostate Cancer.Could you please send me a certificate to validate my ride when you have the time. Again many thanks, Pete Mahon (114)
Thank you so much for letting me participate in your event. I did really enjoy it as the last trail marathon I got lost 3 times! This one was very easy to follow. The route instructions were excellent.
